Klondike Solitaire Turn One (Turn 1)
Klondike Solitaire Turn One turns the stock one card at a time, so every card in it can be played the moment it shows. Players also call it turn 1, draw one, or one-card solitaire. The game above deals in turn one with unlimited passes through the stock, free and with no download.
It is the easier of Klondike's two standard modes. A solver study of a million deals found 90.2% of turn one deals winnable with every card known, against 81.5% when turning three. The deal and every other rule are the same, and they are laid out on the main Klondike page. For the harder version, play Klondike Turn 3.
What Changes When You Turn One Card
All 24 stock cards show on every pass, in the same order unless you take some out. A card you pass over is not lost: it sits in the waste until you turn the waste back into the stock, then comes up again in the same place. So after one pass, you know every card the stock holds and when each one arrives.
Here is the stock of the real deal pictured on the main Klondike page, in the order it turns:

Turning one card, both Aces come up on the first pass, the Ace of clubs 6th and the Ace of diamonds 13th. Turning three cards on the same deal, the Ace of diamonds never shows until a card before it has left the waste. That difference, repeated across the whole stock, is why turn one wins more often.
Turn One Strategy
Use the first pass to read the stock
On your first pass, play what clearly helps and note the rest: where the Kings sit, which Aces are coming, and which cards could free a buried column. On the second pass you are planning with the whole stock in view, not guessing.
Skip a card now if a better use is coming
Since every card comes around again, you can leave the 8 of hearts in the waste when the 8 of diamonds, sitting on a face-down card, needs the only open black 9, then take the 8 of hearts on a later pass. The cost is only score: in standard scoring the first two passes are free and each later pass costs 20 points.
Keep the columns moving
Easy access to the stock makes it tempting to pile waste cards onto the columns. Each one takes a landing spot a column card might need, so the rule from the main page holds here too: play a stock card when it helps turn a face-down card over.
Play it the casino way
Casino-style Vegas Solitaire is turn one with a single pass through the stock. Switch the scoring button to Vegas and the game charges $52 for the deal and pays $5 for every card you put on a foundation, so the 11th card is the first that puts you ahead. Our game does not stop you after one pass, so hold yourself to it. A card you pass over stays buried in the waste unless every card turned after it gets played first, so each skip counts.
Try the graded deals
The New Game menu's six levels, Super Easy to Insane, serve deals graded in turn one. Each has already been won by our computer test player or our solver, and the level reflects how often that fixed player wins it. They open on the main Klondike page, ready to play.
How Often Can You Win Turn One?
About nine deals in ten, if you could see every card. Charlie Blake and Ian Gent's solver tested a million turn one deals under our exact rules (one card per turn, unlimited passes, no card taken back off a foundation) and found 90.2% winnable.
Our own solver played 500 random deals through this game's engine in turn one. It found a winning line in 433, proved 6 unwinnable, and left 61 unsettled in the time allowed, so at least 86.6% of our turn one deals can be won. The solver sees the face-down cards; a player does not, and wins less often.
Klondike Turn One FAQ
What does turn 1 mean in solitaire?
Turn 1 means you turn the stock over one card at a time instead of three. Each card can be played the moment it shows, and all 24 stock cards come up on every pass. It is also called draw one or one-card solitaire, and it is the easier of the two standard ways to play Klondike.
Is there a free version of classic Klondike Solitaire?
Yes. The game on this page is classic Klondike, free in any browser with no download: 28 cards in seven columns, a 24-card stock turned one card at a time, and unlimited passes. The buttons above the board switch to turn 3 or to Vegas scoring, and your game in progress is saved as you play.
How many times can you go through the deck in turn one?
As many times as you like in our game, in turn one and turn 3 alike. Standard scoring makes the first two passes free and takes 20 points for each pass after that. Casino-style Vegas rules allow only one pass when turning one card, so for that challenge, stop after one pass yourself.
